Real Stories
Diane Smallwood
The Lap Banding has given me a new lease on life. It has not only allowed me to do the activities I enjoy doing much easier like camping, riding 4-wheelers and other activities with friends, it has given me more confidence in myself thus raising my self-esteem as well. It is amazing to see how others have reacted to my thinner self as friends and co-workers rejoice in my accomplishment.
The Lap Banding has made it easier to lose the weight and keep it off. I am able to breathe much better especially when exercising or just climbing stairs. My joints have thanked me many times for all the weight that they no longer have to bear. I would do the Lap Banding again in a heart beat as it really did give me a new lease on life.

I always saw people with big weight problems and said to myself, “I’ll never let my weight get that bad.”
In December of 2006 I was 6’2 and 425lbs. I had let it get that bad. I started having knee problems worse than usual and my health started deteriorating. It was hard to breathe while doing anything but sitting still.
I knew if I didn’t do something soon I wasn’t going to be around for my kids and all the wonder that comes with their growing up.
Its been 1 year and 7 months since I joined the “Band Club” and as you can see WOW!!
425 – 150lbs = 276lbs!! I feel great!! I look awesome, I can breathe, and best of all I can keep up with my
Kids!! (Kind of). For me Lapband surgery was the answer to a prayer. It still takes work but it’s a very awesome tool to help keep the weight off. If you or someone you love has serious weight issues please check into this, it might save your/their life.

I went to hear Dr. Cahn’s lap band presentation 3 times before deciding to pursue the procedure.
I kept thinking that if I could just control what I ate and exercise faithfully on my own, why would I need to go to the extreme of having surgery?
Instead, it was my weight that went to the extreme, as I continued gaining until I topped 250 pounds.
My health and my self esteem were at risk. The decision to have the lap band was right for me. My surgery was 12 weeks ago and I have no regrets.
I now make healthier choices with the foods that I eat and I have not felt hungry. I can actually recognize a satiation point after a meal.
I have much more energy to exercise and I have lost 45 pounds since choosing the lap band.
I am looking forward to seeing the other side of 200, which has eluded me for the past 17 years. That is going to be a huge milestone, but well within my reach.
I can hardly wait to see what will happen in the next 12 weeks.
